Clean up area near Rotterdam bike path
I was really pleased to read in The Gazette that they are spending thousands of tax dollars to improve the bicycle path in the Rotterdam Junction area.I’m sure many people are going to really enjoy the scenic view of the once-beautiful Erie Canal. The canal was a home to beavers, muskrats, many varieties of fowl, not to mention great fishing. Unfortunately, a junkyard has ruined the entire area. Categories: Letters to the Editor, Opinion There are decaying vehicles, not to mention a trailer park has also moved in. Instead of adding more blacktop to the path, how about cleaning up the environmental nightmare that has existed for many years. I’m sure the many bikers and joggers would love to see pristine clear waters and abundant wild life instead of the eyesore that presents itself.I have complained to the state Department of Environmental Conservation many times over the years, to no avail. The funding wasn’t there. Everyone who cares about their environment, take a walk or ride on the bicycle path the Mabee Lane section and see the mess.We need to put the Erie Canal back to its original beauty.MARTY SHANTYCharltonMore from The Daily Gazette:EDITORIAL: Find a way to get family members into nursing homesEDITORIAL: Beware of voter intimidationPolice: Schenectady woman tried to take car in Clifton Park hours after arrest, release in prior the…EDITORIAL: Urgent: Today is the last day to complete the censusFoss: Should main downtown branch of the Schenectady County Public Library reopen?
