Packers’ Love learning from Rodgers while adapting to NFL

first_img Written By First Published: 21st August, 2020 08:23 IST WATCH US LIVE FOLLOW US LIVE TV COMMENTcenter_img SUBSCRIBE TO US Associated Press Television News Green Bay Packers rookie Jordan Love says he has tried not to pay attention to all the media speculation surrounding the team’s long-term quarterback plans now that they’ve drafted him as Aaron Rodgers’ potential successor.Love instead is trying to soak in as much as possible as the former Utah State quarterback watches Rodgers go about his business.“It’s great for me just being able to sit there, be in the same room as him, and just hear how he thinks about plays and go out to practice and watch him put it together,” Love said. “It’s really awesome for me to see and take in and evaluate him and evaluate myself and just try to do my best job to learn by watching him.”The Packers’ decision to trade up four spots in the first round to take Love with the 26th overall pick in the draft naturally led to questions about how many more seasons Rodgers might remain in Green Bay.Rodgers, a two-time MVP with four years remaining on his contract, has acknowledged the move surprised him. The situation has drawn comparisons to Rodgers’ arrival at Green Bay and the awkward transition that took place when he replaced Brett Favre after backing him up for three seasons.Love had nothing but positive things to say about Rodgers on Thursday.“It’s been really good,” Love said. “He’s a great person and has been able to help me in the quarterback room on certain things.”Rodgers has said he always has gotten along well with his backup quarterbacks and expects that to continue with Love. Rodgers has noted the shared background they have since both weren’t highly touted recruits coming out of high school.Love was regarded as less polished than other top quarterback prospects in this draft after throwing 17 interceptions last season at Utah State. The Packers are betting on his upside, which was more apparent in 2018 when Love threw 32 touchdown passes and only six interceptions on a stronger Utah State team. But the unusual nature of this season could impact Love’s learning curve. The coronavirus pandemic prevented NFL teams from holding their traditional rookie minicamps and offseason training activities. That left Love without as much time to work with Packers coaches or his new teammates as he attempted to learn the offense through Zoom sessions.“I’d take what I was learning in the meetings and I’d go out with my quarterback coach and go work out and try to implement footwork and route concepts and try to do little pieces of it,” Love said. “That was the way I started learning things. It’s obviously different being out there compared to being here and actually going through a full practice. That doesn’t really do it justice, but it’s all we could do at the time so we had to make it work.”So it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that Love still has plenty of work to do as his rookie season approaches. The Packers just opened training camp Saturday, yet their Sept. 13 season opener at Minnesota is only a few weeks away.“He’s very natural and, you know, there’s a lot to clean up right now,” Packers coach Matt LaFleur said. “He’s a young quarterback that is learning a new system. And just how specific we are with the footwork, I think that takes time. But I’m pleased at how he attacks it on a daily basis. I think he’s a really intelligent kid and he’s very athletic, so I think it’s a matter of time before he can pick up mechanics.”The Packers can afford to be patient since they already have Rodgers. Right now, Love is competing for the backup spot with Tim Boyle, a former undrafted free agent who played college football at Connecticut and Eastern Kentucky.Boyle’s experience could give him an edge after he appeared in three games as Green Bay’s backup last year. Boyle acknowledges he got some additional incentive when the Packers drafted a quarterback in the first round.“It’s not going to change my approach,” Boyle said. “I’m going to do what I can do to help the team and get myself ready to be the best player I can be and for the team. But drafting a quarterback in the first round, if anything, gave me some extra motivation this offseason to get my mind right, get my body right and come into training camp and attack it.”Image credits: AP Last Updated: 21st August, 2020 08:23 IST Packers’ Love Learning From Rodgers While Adapting To NFL Green Bay Packers rookie Jordan Love says he has tried not to pay attention to all the media speculation surrounding the team’s long-term quarterback plans now that they’ve drafted him as Aaron Rodgers’ potential successorlast_img read more

Ind vs Eng: Reports of Team snub to envoy baseless, says BCCI

first_imgThe Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday called reports of Team India missing the Indian High Commissioner to UK, Nalin Surie’s reception for the players as “baseless”.In a media release, the BCCI clarified its stand saying that the team had committed itself for “another function on the same day, six months in advance”. “The BCCI had accordingly communicated the same to the Indian High Commission, and suggested that the reception be organised on 25 July 2011 instead.””However, the Indian High Commission authorities said that there were other engagements scheduled on the 25th. They also informed the BCCI that they would get in touch with the Indian team management after its arrival in the UK, and fix up a date for the reception. The BCCI agreed to this,” the release added.Meanwhile, in a face-saving measure, the BCCI has drafted its team manager Anirudh Chaudhry to hold talks with the officials of the Indian High Commission and it is learnt that the reception may be organised in August, when the Indian team returns to London.last_img read more

Xolo Q900s Windows 8.1 smartphone coming in July for Rs 11,999

first_imgXolo q900s sports a 4.7-inch IPS display. (Photo courtesy: www.xolo.in)Microsoft with the Windows Phone 8.1 update has doubled down on expanding the reach of the Windows Phone ecosystem. Recently, it partnered with Micromax for the Canvas Win line of Windows Phones and now Lava owned Xolo has jumped on the bandwagon.Xolo has unveiled the Xolo Win line up and the first device is the Q900s and has a price of Rs 11,999 and will be available in July. As of now, the phone is available for pre-orders with online retailers for Rs 9,999.The phone touts similar specs as the Micromax Canvas Win W121. It has a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor built on the ARM Cortex A7 architecture. There is 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, dual-SIM slots, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and will have 3G connectivity. On the back there is a 8-megapixel camera and the front has a 2-megapixel sensor. It’s 4.7-inch IPS display has a 720p resolution, delivering 316 pixels per inch. It also has a decent 1,800mAh battery. It compares favourably with the Canvas Win W121 in terms of specifications. The only downside is that it’s a little more expensive than it. That said, Xolo has a penchant for better build quality than Micromax, so that premium should be taken into account, however we have not seen the phone so we can’t be totally sure.Of late, we are seeing many local vendors jump onto the Windows Phone platform as Microsoft has eliminated the licensing fee that it used to charge. Microsoft made this announcement at its BUILD developer conference in April.advertisementMany of these devices are possible because of the turnkey solution Qualcomm and Microsoft have developed that allows Android vendors to port their Android phones to Windows Phone.Google is taking steps to counteract Microsoft’s moves. Earlier in the week the search giant announced the Android One program where it plans on providing turnkey solutions to vendors in emerging markets providing the hardware specs and also being directly responsible for the Android OS and its updates. The plan is to provide high-quality devices that cost less than $100, something similar to what Microsoft is trying to achieve with Windows Phone.Google has already announced Micromax, Karbonn and Spice as its partners for this program in India. It will later expand the program to other parts of the world, so the battle between Android and Windows Phone will become really interesting at the low-end of the market.last_img read more

10 months agoEx-Crystal Palace owner Jordan: Ashley serious about selling Newcastle

first_imgEx-Crystal Palace owner Jordan: Ashley serious about selling Newcastleby Paul Vegas10 months agoSend to a friendShare the loveFormer Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan is convinced Mike Ashley is serious about selling Newcastle United. On the takeover, he says Ashley could do a deal quickly and even if it goes beyond January he think he will sell up.Jordan told talkSPORT: “He’s looking to sell. Absolutely he’s looking to sell.“Unequivocally this time without a shadow of doubt from my vantage point without actually having spoken to Mike for a significant passage of time, reading the signs, knowing how deals get done, last year with Staveley came to the table I pretty much said: ‘This deal will not get done, it will not get done.’“This time there’s a different feel to it, there’s a different metric to it and look from it. Ashley is going to sell this football club. Now it’s not going to hold them back in January from spending money because if he has to spend money he will add it to the ticket. If he doesn’t have to write a cheque for it someone else is paying for it and so be it.”With Mike I absolutely believe he should sell. I believe he will sell this time, I don’t believe it’s a PR spin.“If I was him I wouldn’t want to be there anymore. It’s so toxic and debilitating for everyone at the football club – he’s never going to recover from the impression that he’s not there for the football club when they need him.” TagsTransfersAbout the authorPaul VegasShare the loveHave your saylast_img read more
