Breaking News: Supreme Court Suspends Tah

first_imgThe Supreme Court of Liberia has suspended with immediate effect from the practice of law (directly and indirectly) in the republic of Liberia Cllr. Christiana Tah, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Liberia. The decision was taken Friday afternoon, January 10, while giving its ruling in the contempt charge against the Liberian Attorney General following her release several months ago of journalist Rodney Sieh from prison on what she described as “compassionate leave” from prison. So long as the Supreme Court’s suspension of the Justice Minister maintains, she will be unable to function as Attorney General and Minister of Justice. Also suspended from practicing law for three months was Sieh’s lawyer, Cllr. Beyan Howard. It was he who wrote to the Minister of Justice requesting the compassionate leave, which she granted. The court said that such a request and the granting thereof were in contravention of the law and interfered with the decision of the High Court to have the lower court (civil law court) implement its earlier ruling against journalist Sieh.More to follow as details unfold.Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)last_img read more
